Environmental Education in an ideal setting...the outdoors!
September 13 (Evening) - 14 (Full day), 2002
Programs
Missouri State University, with funding provided by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, presents a two-day workshop on Environmental
Education at the unique setting of the Bull Shoals Field Station.
This Workshop is open to 6th-12th grade science teachers in Northern Arkansas
and Southern Missouri. Volunteers from the Greater Ozarks Audubon Society
as well as staff from the Missouri Department of Conservation and Arkansas Game
and Fish will assist faculty and staff from Missouri State in leading activities that
include water quality analysis, an interpretive nature walk, small mammal
trapping, using a weather station, and bird watching and identification.
These activities will be correlated with national and state standards as well as
provide innovative ideas for use in the classroom.
Why EE?
Research has indicated that getting students outdoors improves their attitudes
toward the environment. Developing an outdoor classroom, planning
environmentally based field trips, or simply taking students on nature walks
will help create a connection to their environment. In addition, students
will be better prepared to make the necessary and important environmental
decisions in the future.
Expenses
Room and board and round-trip mileage will be provided at no expense to the
participant.
